Leonard Zăicescu, Survivor of Iași Pogrom

12 Vasile Stroescu Street

Leonard Zăicescu was only 14 years old in the summer when together with his father, they were taken out from their house on Vasile Stroescu street, no. 12, escorted to the Police Headquarters where they „were part of the Death`s performance” as he remembers. Later on, he embarked on the Iași-Podu Iloaiei train. His father, injured when he was in the yard of the Police Headquarters, was embarked on the Iași-Călărași train and died. Leonard survived, but the terroir lived in the Police Headquarter yard, in the train station square, in the Death Train Iași-Podu Iloaiei, transformed into painful memories about suffering, the disappearance of dear ones, and losing human dignity.
