The Mass Graves from the Jewish Cemetery

The Alley of Jewish Cemetery

In Iași, „beginning on June 25, common graves were being dug in the cemeteries. On this occasion, several Jews being used to dig graves were shot”- testimony of Otto Schechter. The common pits dug at this time became the graves of many Jews murdered during the Iași Pogrom.

„On June 20, 1941, Henry Staerman (living on Ipsilanti street, no. 7), the head of a mandatory labor camp with 110 young Jews, was ordered by the Iași Pre-military Training Inspectorate to urgently dig to pits the size indicated by the City Hall technical service, in the Jewish cemetery from Păcurari. The graves were finished on June 26.” (Radu Ioanid, The Pogrom in Iași, 2021).
